For kids born between 1999-2007
Since 1990, this four-week program has given kids of all ability levels expert instruction in track and field events and the opportunity to take part in friendly competition at the world-famous New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory. Events include distance running, sprints, relays, hurdles, long jump, high jump, and javelin. Every participant goes home with a ribbon and a T-shirt.
The City Sports for Kids program is directed by fitness experts Bob and Shelly Glover, who have co-authored best-selling books including The Runner’s Handbook and The Family Fitness Handbook. Nearly 25 years ago they started this program to promote youth physical fitness, help kids develop self-esteem through success-oriented sports, and build bridges of understanding through play between boys and girls of various races and religions. The Glovers are assisted by a staff of seasoned runners.
Looking for a vigorous, non-impact aerobic workout? NYRR's Deep Water Running program includes speed work, interval training, and simulated hill repeats. You'll wear a flotation belt to help you run—not swim—in deep water. It's a great way to do off-road training, or to stay fit if you're injured.
NYRR Running Classes provide coached workouts, speed training, paced runs, and camaraderie with runners of similar abilities—from beginners to seasoned competitors. The ten-week sessions help you with running form, muscular strength, pacing, and everything else you need to run farther and faster.
NYRR Yoga for Runners is a program created specially for runners to help improve flexibility and athletic performance. In six-week sessions, students stretch and strengthen major running muscle groups. Over time, yoga can help to prevent joint injuries and improve breath control and mental focus. Classes focus on elongating, loosening, and restorative work while building strength, increasing range of motion, and training the body and mind.
These sessions are open to everyone from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts who want to continue an ongoing yoga practice.
